Cattistock village lies in the heart of Thomas Hardy's rural Dorset, mid way between Dorchester and Yeovil.

Cattistock is what most people imagine a Dorset village to be. It has a church, a pub, a village shop and a village hall. It also has its own cricket ground, football ground and grass tennis court.

Cattistock is a very friendly village and its residents are always there to help anyone who needs a hand.

For us, the focal point is the Fox and Hounds. It is very much a villagers' pub and whatever time you visit you can be sure of finding friendly locals in there. You are guaranteed a warm welcome from Chris and Rachel, who run the pub.

The church has a very impressive tower, which once housed a carillon. Inside the church is a William Morris window and a very ornate font. Its present set of 8 bells can be heard across the village most Friday evenings (bell ringing practice) and on Sundays before the service.

Cattistock is a very active village and there is always something going on or being planned. Regular events include badminton, short mat bowls, crib, darts, tennis, cricket, football, WI, British Legion, horse riding and whist to mention just a few. ~ and all this with a population of only 350 or so!

Every Wednesday night people gather round the Fox and Hounds to witness the drawing of the 200 club, hoping to be the winner of the £5 first prize.

Friday night at the Fox is Thrift Club night and another excuse to all meet up. On the last Tuesday of each month there is a themed food night (guest chefs) but advance booking is essential.

Each year brings the regular events such as fete week, pantomime, open gardens, Christmas bazaar etc

On a less regular basis there are bingo evenings, drama productions, coffee mornings, garden parties etc.
